I have access needs, can I travel to the Netherlands by myself?

Accessible Travel Netherlands wants to encourage and support people with less mobility to travel individually. For this reason we organize accommodation, transport, tours and excursions that fit your access needs. Additionally, we can arrange mobility equipment that will be delivered at your accommodation. 

How does the booking process work? 

On the homepage or on the pages 'stays' and 'tours' you can choose where you would like to go or what you would like to do. After you made your choice you can read the details of the stay or tour. Choose your dates and number of people, you will now see the estimated cost per person. If you click on 'Continue' you will be able to add other tours, assistive devices or transport. You will now see the total cost per person for your stays and/or tours. You can click on 'Continue' you can fill out your personal details and send your request. This is not a final booking, but we will process your request and contact you within 48 hours.

Is the Netherlands accessible for people with a disability?

This is a very difficult question to answer. Accessibility involves particular places and people. It can not be generalized for a country, city, neighborhood or building even. Each person needs different kinds of access. A person can have a physical disability, visual or hearing impairment, be chronically sick, be pregnant, be short or tall, be senior, have children or carry heavy bags.

How can I be sure to trust the information given on 

We only give objective information and don't try to make a certain place appear better accessible than it actually is. Every location is examined personally or by someone instructed to examine a location. Additionally, we always make pictures at the locations we visit so we can provide you with the pictures if you wish. 

Is the Rijksmuseum accessible for wheelchairs?

The interior of the Rijksmuseum is accessible for people with strollers, wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs. The Rijksmuseum does not allow scooters to go into the museum. At the entrance wheelchairs are available for use. For people that can not visit the museum independently, an assistant can enter the museum for free. The Rijksmuseum allows guide dogs and offers audiotours. Buggies for small children are also available for use at the entrance. 

Is the Van Gogh Museum accessible for wheelchairs?

The interior of the Van Gogh Museum is accessible for people with strollers and wheelchairs. The museum has elevators and no bumps. At the entrance you will find a wheelchair elevator. The museum offers audiotours and allows guide dogs. 

Is the Rembrandt house accessible with a wheelchair? 

Yes, you will find a platform lift for wheelchair users at the entrance of the Rembrandthuis. Most levels and rooms can be reached by elevator, but not all. Despite the fact that the museum is not perfectly accessible, the Rembrandthuis is definately worth a visit for people with limited mobility. 

Is the canal cruise accessible for wheelchair users? 

Yes, a maximum of 4 wheelchairs are allowed on the canal cruise. For more information visit the page Canal cruise in Amsterdam

Is bus 858 to Keukenhof accessible for wheelchair users? 

Bus 858 from Schiphol Airport to Keukenhof is wheelchair accessible. You can enter the bus at the middle entrance. You will need some help to get into the bus, because the platform is not on the same height as the entrance of the bus. The difference is about 10 to 15 cm. If you are traveling by yourself, you can ask another traveler or the driver to help you enter the bus. In the part where you enter the bus is also space for a wheelchair user. The bus ride from Schiphol Airport to Keukenhof takes approximately 30 minutes.
